Concluding "The Riches" PDF Print E-mail

In the last episode of The Riches, Wayne Malloy (Eddie Izzard) was caught up in a shady construction deal with the Russian mob, his wife Dahlia (Minnie Driver) shared a kiss with a police officer who knew about her breaking parole, and their son Cael (Noel Fisher) was being used by dangerous traveller Quinn (Jared Harris) to threaten Wayne. What happens next?! We don't know, because that's when FX cancelled the show due to poor ratings.

Because of the writer's strike, The Riches' second season was cut down to only 7 episodes last Spring. After a summer of uncertainty, last month FX finally announced that there will not be a third season. So how do we find out what happens after the cliffhanger? Well, you support Eddie Izzard's intention to make a self-financed movie.

Izzard told OK! Magazine that he's approached FX and TBS about turning The Riches into a movie, and was given their blessing, but not their money. Instead, Izzard will channel his character's "can do" spirit when it comes to making do with money, raising it himself on the Internet.

He also wants to make it a “road move, shooting in Louisiana and New Mexico, everywhere that they steal,” he exclaims. “We’ll do it by the skin on our teeth.”

Izzard already has Minnie Driver on board, but if it's going to be a road movie, then that means the end of their long con. The Riches is a wonderful show and the more who see it, the better, but how do you start a movie in the middle of an ongoing crisis? It's not like Firefly and Serenity where they had to tie up loose ends but they could start fresh because Firefly didn't end in a cliffhanger. It'd be interesting to see how Izzard sets it up for the people who didn't watch the show, a group apparently large enough that the show met an abrupt end because of them.

I've got £5.63?

Eddie should put a "Riches" collection box at the door of his tour venues.

Honestly if all his fans got together and donated I'm sure we'd scrap by a budget movie smilies/smiley.gif

Hell I'd fork over $20 if it meant that we benefit in some way when it came out? Perhaps giving $10 also gets us a free pa*s for admission?

If we're going to fund a movie (even stemmed from love) there should be a kick back. We're not idiots [read: Twilight fans]

i'd dish out some money. with the shield ending in a few weeks, nip/tuck leaving in a year, fx having just one show a week of its always sunny, and making us wait well over a year for a new season of rescue me............this is crap for making good original series. taking away the shows that made fx the network it is and killing possibly groundbreaking shows.

This story deserves a proper ending; these characters deserve closure and an opportunity to create it; the fans of The Riches deserve the satisfaction of knowing their loyalty has been considered. We've all got an emotional investment in
The Riches...... it's time for the payoff..... let's make it happen!!
Whatever it takes..... I'm in!

if there is no chance of moving the riches to another network, then a movie would be a great way to wrap up the story. the show may not have had the best ratings....maybe even horrible....but it deserves an ending. i'm never one to place blame, but f/x needs to promote their shows that aren't doing well because all of their shows should be doing well. all are well written, acted and directed, well the dramas anyway.

@nick: The thing is, FX promoted The Riches pretty heavily. Like all their original shows, they have commercials running every day and they repeat new episodes 3-4 times a week. They even had a Riches sweepstakes giving away an SUV. I think the show just didn't catch on, which is sad.

Best show ever. I looked forward to every episode. FX really needs to respect the viewers and finish the story. Its like reading a great book and misplacing it. I need to know the ending.

YES!! Get The Riches on another network! It was the best thing on TV in YEARS!! And if getting them on another network isn't possible, than at least have enough respect for the fans of The Riches to wrap up the cliffhangers with a movie that gives us closure!

I just found out that The Riches has been cancelled and I am extremely disappointed. I absolutely loved that show. The whole concept was fascinating and it was the most original show to come out in years. I cannot believe that FX let us down. If there is no Riches then they are minus this viewer because that was the only show I watched on their network. I guess in the big scheme of things this one viewer means nothing but I am guessing I am not the only one who feels this way.
I just cannot understand why shows like Friday Night Lights can get picked up by another network and none of them want The Riches? I think these network execs must make too much damn money. They must be spending it on drugs because they sure don't seem to be thinking clearly!smilies/grin.gif
Come on AMC...BRAVO...TBS...USA...one of you get with the program(no pun intended..lol). Give us back our Riches!
