0633804000 When someone writes the book about how the Wonder Woman film finally got made, the most interesting chapter will be about wonder-who.com.

The project was a slow reveal, modeled after various teaser web promotions that various studios have done in the past to build up anticipation among the web community(think those games that Warner Bros. did for The Dark Knight). It started as a poster of a bald eagle perched upon the Wonder Woman symbol before a waving American flag. Beneath it was the slogan, ‘it’s time for a new “W.”’ Gradually, the posters grew more explicit, giving away more and more of the image beneath as the American flag ‘tore’ away. It was finally revealed on election day to be Megan Fox, sporting a Wonder Woman outfit, prompting widespread confusion in the comic book/film community, as nothing had been mentioned regarding a Wonder Woman film in quite some time (both Joss Whedon and Joel Silver's versions seem to have completely jumped the shark).

But the whole thing was a hoax.

Well, maybe hoax is kind of a mean word. As John (direct all inquiries to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) clearly states in the ‘why I did it’ section of his website, he wanted to do something that would engage people on a level deeper than a mere fan poster would, because she ‘deserves’ it (can’t say that I agree). By all means, he seems to have succeeded, as the story of people being duped by this poster made it all the way to the front page of yahoo news. Warner Brothers said no way, and John came clean, saying that the project was essentially just something that he really wanted to do.

And really, isn’t that what the internet is for? Finding a vessel for your most irrational desires and involving as many people as possible in them?

Frankly, the poster isn’t as convincing to me as the Batman ones that were posted here a while ago (especially that Riddler one), but I think it’s nice that people are able to involve themselves in things like this. Not too long ago, before the internet (seriously, can anyone else even remember that?), our favorite characters were in the hands of people who capable of decisions like the ones that led to the website superdickery.com. Not that fan films and projects are always brilliant, but I’ll take them over second guessing of popular taste any day. There’s at least an honesty to them that I find inspiring, which seems to have in part at least motivated this project.

On another note, I guess I don’t share the enthusiasm for Wonder Woman that I know some other people do. Maybe it’s just the fact that she was created for the express purpose of indulging her creator William Moulton Marston’s bondage fantasies (I’m not kidding, look it up), but she’s never come across as the empowering character I know she’s supposed to be.

And I can’t see Megan Fox pulling off a lead role, either.
