Let's see what kind of trailers this week brought us. There's a few new trailers for the highly anticipated movies, as well as some first trailers, including an actual trailer for Star Trek (that's not just a damn ship)!
New Watchmen trailer, this one focusing on action scenes even more than the first trailer. Also, it looks like they've changed the team name from Crimebusters to actually Watchmen. Kind of missing the point, isn't it? Oh, well. Hand me a horse's corpse to bludgeon, but this is starting to look like LXG.
This international trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still gives us the best look at Gort yet, but practically no resemblance to the original. Looks like Gort's disarming of the military is extended into a full blown battle. It's probably just ramped up to the extreme for the trailer, but wouldn't that make the pacifist message ironic, if not hypocritical?
The funniest trailer in the batch goes to this little sucker. You've got to love Roland Emmerich's fetish of end-of-the-world scenarios. This is the mother of all disaster movies, because they don't even need to have any sciency gobbledygook like glaciers melting or whatever. Hey, the Mayans calendar ended! Time for some radical explosive shit! Extra points for telling people to Google things at the end.
This trailer doesn't officially go online until Monday, but it's already playing in front of Quantum of Solace in theaters, so naturally there is a bootleg version online. It looks like J.J. Abrams accomplished exactly what he set out to do: make Star Trek cool for the mainstream. Cue sex, explosions, and Simon Pegg acting goofy. Trekkies... hot?
Is it just me or does Hogwarts look darker and darker each year? With all those wizards in there, you'd think one of them could conjure up a lightbulb. This new Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince trailer is awesome, but it got me angrier than excited. We're supposed to get this movie next week, dammit, now we have to wait 8 more months? But you release a new trailer now anyway? What a c--ktease. They better be giving us the first half of Deathly Hallows in December to make up for it (We're not, it's November 2010, but a man can threaten).
Last and least, we have the mindblowing moves of Dance Flick. Ah, yes, spoofing the street dance movies. Obvious, really. The only thing surprising is that this comes from Scary Movie pioneers Wayans Brothers. You'd think that after Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg completely and dilligently raped the crap out of the spoof genre, the Wayans would find a better outlet for their comedy. Like, I don't know, White Girls 2. Although, I do have to give them credit for mostly sticking within the same genre in their parodies.
